What is Hair graft? FUE hair transplant cost

FUE is a hair transplant that takes individual hair follicles from a donor site and implants them in singular canal beds on the transplant site. It is better than a follicular unit transplant. FUE cost is charged per session and in Turkey is more affordable.
For those with hair loss or bald heads, seeking ways to restore their hair and look better, there’s no problem now. With the advent of hair transplants, getting a good appearance with full and healthy hair is no longer far-fetched.

Hair transplantation is a cosmetic surgery that has been on the increase over the years because of men and women who want better hairline and physical outlook. As a result, it has been continuously improved on and better techniques keep being developed to carry out the procedure. One of such is the Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE), a hair transplant that has become one of the best techniques in restoring hair glory.

The FUE hair transplant outruns the Follicular Unit Transplant (FUT) technique because it leads to lesser scars, lesser risk of space on the head, mismatched skin or hair (hair plug look), and records a higher success rate.

What is Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE)?

This type of hair transplant is a procedure that involves extracting single hair follicles from areas with abundant hair and implanting these follicles individually into the skin of the area that lacks hair.

Unlike the FUT procedure where a patch of healthy hair along with the skin is harvested from a donor site and planted on the target area, this technique hardly ever leaves behind traces of an extraction.

You can have an FUE hair transplant done for the following reasons:

  • To treat bald headedness.
  • To create a new hairline for those whose hairline goes backward.
  • To treat hair loss.

FUE achieves these by filling up the empty spaces on the scalp with individual hair follicles till they are meet the desired result.

Procedure

Just like every other surgery, you have to consult with your surgeon to find out if you are capable of going through the hair graft process and how intense the surgery might be.

In surgery, the procedure follows these steps.

  1. You will be placed on anesthesia, mostly the local one, which keeps you awake but erases the pains.
  2. The hair on both the donor site (often the back of the scalp where hair grows the most) and the site for the implant, is shaved down. The site for implant in particular is shaved clean and bare.
  3. Your surgeon will enlarge the canals of the implant site with a small sharp tool such as a needle.
  4. Unit follicles of hair are extracted one after the other with a micro punch from the donor site and implanted in the freshly opened canal beds of the surgical site. The canal serves as the soil where the newly implanted hair follicles will take root and grow.
  5. The implant area will be cleaned and bandaged.

The procedure from enlarging the canals to implanting the hair follicles is done under a microscope to enable accuracy in the technique.

FUE hair graft is a tasking procedure that takes a lot of time unlike the convention follicular unit transplant (FUT) or follicular unit strip surgery (FUSS). A small transplant area can take 3 to 5 hours, and if it is a large area, surgery may have to be done in batches of 2 to 4 hours for 2 to 3 days or might be done at a stretch for 10 to 15 hours. FUT or FUSS on the other hand can take 1 to 3 hours and you will be free to go.

However, although FUE hair transplant takes time, it yields a better result, has lesser complications, and a faster recovery rate. This is what makes the hair transplant one of the most sought after transplants.

Destination For FUE

A lot of countries offer hair transplant surgeries. The United States is one country that has a lot of expertise in FUE hair transplants. Although their hospitals and surgeons are among the top best for most surgeries, their costs are way too high for most patients. This has made a lot of countries sit up, by building expertise while offering the same surgeries at lower prices in comparison to the US.

Turkey is one such country. The country has been known to build fame in hair transplant surgery almost matching that of the US. A lot of Turkey hospitals have affiliation with hospitals based in the US such as John Hopkins Medicine, Havard Medical Centre, Mayo Clinic, etc. And their surgeons are very well trained and have years of experience in the US and other countries.

Turkey surgeons are experts in hair transplants and other cosmetic and aesthetic surgeries and follicular unit extraction is a strong suit. They are rated among the top five destinations for hair transplants, so if you ever want to go anywhere for surgery, consider Turkey.

Cost of Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE)

FUE hair transplant cost depends on the amount of hair that is transplanted and the surgeon that is involved. Also, the surgery is charged per session because the FUE technique can take a series of sessions over days.

In the US, the cost of FUE per session is estimated at $4,000 to $15,000. Other countries have different prices.

FUE cost in Turkey is relatively cheaper than most countries and their hair transplants are one of the best in the world. Their price is estimated at $1,000 to $5,000 per session.
