What Has Thomas Markle Said About Meghan Markle’s Surrogacy?

Thomas Markle, the estranged father of Meghan Markle, has publicly commented on the decision of his daughter’s decision to use a surrogate to have her second child, Lilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor. He talked to The Sun in 2021 in an interview, where he expressed his surprise at Meghan’s choice saying that he was a little disappointed in the fact that she chose not to carry her baby. He also questioned the need for surrogacy stating that he could not imagine anybody else carrying the child apart from his daughter. 

However, Thomas has also expressed some support for the decision of his daughter’s decision, eventually declaring his support and respecting the decision of his daughter, as well as acknowledging the reasons behind her choice for the use of a surrogate. This was expressed in a 2022 interview with ITV’s Good Morning Britain, where he said that he would be pulling for them and that he loved his daughter and was happy for her. Overall, the comments of Thomas Markle have been mixed on the subject of Meghan Markle’s surrogacy. He has expressed both surprise and disappointment at her decision but has also shown support for the choice. Ultimately, it seems he wants what is best for his daughter and is willing to respect her decisions.

Thomas Markle Left Out of Royal Baby Announcement

Royal baby watchers were quick to notice the absence of one significant man from the official Buckingham Palace statement that announced the birth of the first child of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, Thomas Markle, the estranged father. In the statement, after the announcement and the details of the sex, weight and delivery of the child, notable names like The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, The Prince of Wales, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, The Duchess of Cornwall, Lady Jane Fellowes and others were said to have been informed of the news and that they were very delighted. 

The Duchess’s mother, Doria Ragland, was also mentioned as being overjoyed by the birth and that she was the Royal Highness at Frogmore Cottage, the statement read. Thomas Markle has been estranged from Meghan following a series of very public blunders in both the British and the American press. This culminated in his absence from the wedding of Meghan and Prince Harry, which also led to more unsanctioned interviews. However, Thomas Markle informed British Newspapers that he was delighted to hear that the mother and the child were doing well and offered congratulations to the couple.

Are There Any Truth to the Surrogacy Rumors?

While this has been an ongoing and dormant story, they were recently stoked because of the release of the Netflix documentary series about the royal couple. The hate campaign was first started by a woman called Quinlan in 2018 after she had set up a private group on a social network called MeWe. Along with some of the most vocal members of the group, like Natasha Cannell and Kiz Laird Connolly, they became the originators and the primary promoters of the campaign against Markle. 

The main claim of the group was that Markle had been faking her pregnancy bulge with the aid of the prosthetic known as moon bulge, to hide the fact that she was never pregnant and had opted to have her two children via a surrogate. There were a lot of posts on different social media networks like X and a lot of YouTube videos analyzing pictures of Meghan Markle at different stages of her pregnancy, claiming that in some instances, the pregnancy bump had disappeared. The MeWe group was like a repository for the disinformation campaign, as that was where the lies and the memes spread to other social media apps like X. This fact was exposed by the misinformation tracking firm BotSentinel in a report that they released about the issue.  

Meghan Markle’s Attempt to Debunk the Rumours

Even though in the released Netflix documentary, Meghan’s pregnancy was shown, with pictures of her during the pregnancy appearing, as well as ultrasound images of the baby, this did not detract the rumour mongers. However, instead of quelling the rumours, they renewed their attacks. They lifted some images from the documentary and used them as further proof that the pregnancy was fake. Even more extreme elements of the conspiracy movement claim that the children are not Meghan’s and, therefore, should be excluded from the line of succession, while others claim that the children are not real at all.
