The director and founder of Avelana doo Clinic, Slovenia started to deal with vascular surgery in depth as a young specialist in surgery. From 1991 to 1992, as a British Council Fellow, he specialized in vascular surgery at the Bristol Royal Infirmary, Bristol, United Kingdom. In 1994, he acquired his knowledge from a vascular surgeon, cf. dr. Pavel Šebesta at Na Homolce Hospital, Prague, Czech Republic, which specializes in cardiovascular and neurological / neurosurgical diseases,
He was the first in Slovenia to start endoscopic operations of perforating veins (SEPS) and introduced minimally invasive treatment of colonic venous insufficiency with endolaser obliteration of veins and aspiration phlebectomy.
He has published more than twenty scientific articles in Slovenian and foreign scientific journals and some popular articles.
He imparts his knowledge and surgical technique to both Slovenian and foreign medical colleagues with great dedication and collegiality. Annually organizes courses of laser methods of treatment of venous insufficiency for doctors. In 2019, the 14th international workshop entitled Ultrasound-guided endovenous laser / RF treatment of varicose veins was organized. More than 225 doctors from Slovenia and abroad (Greece, Hungary, Macedonia, Croatia, Serbia, Russia, Iran, the United Arab Emirates, Sweden, Poland, Portugal, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Denmark) have already studied the technique of endovenous laser obliteration. Montenegro, Norway, Indonesia, South Africa, Lebanon, the United States, the United Kingdom, Estonia, Kazakhstan, Australia and Switzerland).
He is a member of many domestic and international associations (Association for Vascular Diseases of the Slovenian Medical Association, Federation Europeenne des Medecins Salaries-FEMS, European Society for Vascular Surgery). He participated in the establishment of Slovenian guidelines for the detection and treatment of abdominal aortic aneurysms and in recommendations for the detection and treatment of chronic venous disease.
